About
Scott offers a unique, captivating improvisational musical experience, combining contemporary
and ancient instruments with modern technology to create a refreshing and exclusive orchestration that is improvised uniquely for each performance.

How Sonoran Gypsies Project Came About With improvisational multi-instrumental skills and modern technology, Scott weaves the instruments together, creating a sound that blends freely with the experience of the venue surroundings. In 2025, at 67 years old, Scott has been playing Native American Flute and performing all over Arizona part-time for over 20 years. Most of his adult life has been spent in the medical industry. While he loves his work, his passion is in his music. Not getting any younger, about 2 years earlier, Scott decided it was time to prepare himself for retirement and begin living his passion as his livelihood for the rest of his life. Scott had a band called Sonoran Gypsies, and while they had some mild success, he felt that playing with a band would limit his ability to play in multiple types of venues. So Sonoran Gypsies was dis-banded. Pun intended. Upon ending Sonoran Gypsies, Native American-style Flutes, Didgeridoo, and Harmonica, were the only instruments he felt confident enough playing in public. Knowing he needed much more than these three instruments to cultivate the sound he imagined, he decided to lay low for a while and teach himself all the instruments and technology he needed and wanted in his new sound. For those two years, Scott has diligently taught himself guitar, keyboard, percussion, handpan and an array of other instruments. Scott is pleased to present to you this new chapter in his musical journey called: SONORAN GYPSIES PROJECT The name "Sonoran" comes from the Sonoran Desert that Scott's home town of Phoenix is in. Much the way a Gypsy lives life with improvisational free flowing freedom and gusto, the "Gypsies" part of the name reflects the free flowing improvisational spirit and freedom that Scott's music is all about. The site and logo colors were carefully chosen and have two meanings. First the colors reflect those of the Arizona desert and the beautiful sun rises and sunsets that grace the Arizona Sky. Secondly, Scott is a die hard Phoenix Suns fan who's colors are of course, Purple and Orange.

A self taught musician, Scott Schaefer began his music career after discovering the Native American Flute in 2003. Eventually through the inspiration and influence of musicians he has worked with, Scott has taught himself a repertoire of instruments. By teaching himself to be a multi-instrumentalist, it has given Scott the freedom of creativity needed to develop a style all his own.
Scott's unique style is inspired by the beauty and mystique of his home state, Arizona. He combines the Native American Flute and guitar with modern electronics and other contemporary and exotic instruments to create a distinctive style of music that he hopes will someday be defined as Arizona's sound.

No longer producing songs for commercial purposes, Scott chooses instead to create something unique, refreshing, amazing and unforgettable at each and every performance. No two songs will ever sound exactly the same. Each song will be as new to Scott as it is to you, sharing the experience together
for the first time, Every Time!
Throughout his musical journey, Scott has produced 10 CDs, and each one has played a role in shaping his current style and direction as a musician. He believes that his latest path is the one he had always been destined to follow.
